Why All-on-4® Dental Implants are Better Than Dentures

by | Sep 17, 2019 | Uncategorized

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, there are a lot of options to choose from, one of which is the All-on-4® dental implants. These implants are recommended for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth. They allow patients to receive a full set of implant-supported prosthetic teeth, which look just like their natural teeth. Another option to choose from are dentures, which are still very popular and allow people to replace all their missing teeth.

Are All-on-4® dental implants better than dentures?

To determine which of these teeth replacement tools is better, we have to take a closer look at both of them.

Dentures used to be the most popular orthodontic device used to replace missing teeth. Their popularity has waned in recent years because they do not look like natural teeth and take some time to get used to because they sit on top of the gums and can move around in the mouth if they are not properly secured.

Types of dentures

The two different types of dentures are the complete dentures and partial dentures. The partial dentures are used when the patient still has a lot of their natural teeth left, while the complete dentures are used when most or all of the natural teeth are missing.

One of the biggest benefits of dentures is the fact that they are not as expensive as the other teeth replacement appliances. But, they are also not as durable. That is another reason more people are going with dental implants and bridges to replace their missing teeth.

All-on-4® dental implants

This is a type of dental implant that is designed for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth and do not have the necessary bone mass to properly support all the implants that have to be fused to their jaw to replace their natural teeth.

Instead of using an implant for each tooth, All-on-4® implants uses four implant posts to support the teeth. It also helps the patient avoid the need for a bone graft to support the implants. The process involves using the titanium posts fused to the jaw strategically.

Two titanium posts are implanted vertically at the front of the jaw, where there is usually more bone mass. The other two posts are placed at the back of the jaw with one on each side, providing the support to hold the artificial teeth in place. The posts are then implanted at a 45-degree angle, maximizing the contact between existing bone and the posts. The 45-degree angle which the posts are implanted at also helps to avoid the sinus cavities, so there is no need for a sinus lift.

All-on-4® dental implants provide an alternative to dentures for those who want more stability for their artificial teeth and a more natural look without having to undergo a bone graft. If you have lost most of your natural teeth and want to replace them, ask your dentist for more information about All-on-4® implants.
