Let’s face it, tooth pain hurts. There is no sugar coating this fact. Tooth pain can limit us in our everyday lives. If your teeth or tooth hurt, it will be hard to be in a good mood. It will be limiting when you eat and can cause utter agony.

You may not want to work or carry on with your everyday chores, this will interrupt your day and will require a dentist visit in order to fix the problem.

There Are Many Things That Can Cause Tooth Pain.

11 Causes Of Tooth Pain Include:

  1. A small area that is rotting (decay)

  2. Is your tooth sensitive to temperatures?

  3. Did you recently have a dental procedure done?

  4. You could have a loose filling

  5. An abscess could be the reason

  6. Perhaps you grind your teeth at night while you sleep?

  7. Did you injure or crack your tooth?

  8. Your gums could have an abrasion

  9. Gum recession

  10. Do you wear braces?

  11. A medical health problem relating the cancer

The list above proves that there are many reasons why you may be experiencing tooth pain. If you recently had a dental procedure done, you do not need to head to your dentist office right away, unless you notice an infection.

Infections can cause fevers, swelling, and an overall unwell type of feeling.  If your tooth pain is from a procedure you’ve recently had, then you may want to wait a few days before you head back to your dentist’s office. To take the edge off, we recommend that you utilize over-the-counter painkillers, such as ibuprofen.

If you notice black on your tooth, make an appointment with your dentist, this way, they can remove any decay that may be building up before it gets worse.

If you injured your tooth, you will need an emergency visit, depending on how bad it is damaged and hurts.

An important rule of measure you can use is asking yourself how bad it really hurts. Be honest with yourself.  Use a scale of one through ten. If it hurts a seven and above, you will need to consult a dentist immediately especially if ibuprofen does not take the pain away.

If the tooth pain resolves after you take over-the-counter painkillers than you should know that this issue is not immediate, but you will still need to see your dentist for an evaluation and treatment.

Perhaps you grind your teeth at night? If this is the case, your dentist will recommend a night guard. This will keep you from chomping into your teeth and jaw and will minimize tooth pain.

A number one reason to immediately visit your dentist is if you have an abscess. You will likely know because you will experience extreme pain, there will probably be puss present, you may have a fever, and feel very unwell.  If these symptoms are present, seek emergency help as this type of tooth pain can cause sepsis; bacteria can get into your blood and this could cause death.

Pay attention to minor and major signs, either way, if the tooth pain stays, seek help!
